As-Salaamu ‘Alaikum Dear Beloved Brothers and Sisters
Finally made it back to my Sunny Southern California HOME!!! Al Hamdulillah (All Praises are due to Allah).
I have been around the country, and Hawaii and I can honestly say, that I would not like to live anywhere else.
New Orleans, is great. The food. The music. The people. The river. The lake. I even went to Florida and visited Miami’s South Beach before returning home and it was definitely FLASHY. The beach was mediocre though compared to L.A.’s. It just wasn’t as sunny. It seems sunnier in L.A. even at nighttime, compared to Miami. LOL
But as an M.G.T., I can honestly say that the South has hospitality on Lock!
I went to jail almost immediately upon my arrival and the first thing I noticed was that, even in the main reception room, where they admit the inmates, and there can be about one hundred people in this room, the men and women were divided into opposite sides of the room.
At the shelter, the women were set apart from the men, in the mandatory church service as well as at the meal that followed. I absolutely loved that. Never experienced anything like it anywhere else in my travels.
The Sisters have a certain femininity, that is distinct from the women in other parts of the country. They are more modest and decent and take pride and pleasure in their femininity (completely opposite from the Brothers). Their accents in speech, mannerisms, everything says, “I am a woman and enjoy it. I do not want to appear masculine in any way.”
I have written before, but you know how the Brothers from New Orleans are known for saying, “Ya heard me?” Well, I noticed that the Sisters colloquialisms are even distinct from the Brothers. They say, “Heah?” It is so sweet! They just make you feel so at home, which is actually, my definition of “hospitality” : To make someone feel at home.
On my return trip, I went into the Greyhound station store in T’Allah aSee, Florida, which is a Muslim name, and there was a magazine that the patron told me I could take with me on my trip.
It was called, Southern Lady, and I found it to be a gem of a resource concerning hospitality. So, I thought I would recommend it to my sisters because “A Muslim is not a Muslim until she wants for her Sister what she wants for herself.”
