بسم الله الرحمان الرحيم
الإخوان المسلمين السلام عليكم
AS-SALAAMU ‘ALAIKUM, BELOVED SISTERS & BROTHERS!
Santa Monica Library has volumes of old magazines dating back to 1900.
I found this copy of Harper’s Bazaar, which I know to be dedicated to Homemaking, dated July 14, 1900.
In it were articles referencing colleges such as OREAD INSTITUTE OF DOMESTIC SCIENCE. Isn’t that incredible? Also terms such as “SCIENTIFIC HOUSEKEEPING” were used throughout the magazine.

I absolutely loved it.
I have previously taken inspiration from old Vogue magazines that also date back to the same period.
I am advocating a return to such practical sciences for Blackwomen to become knowledgeable.
As my cover statement relates, we have used our housekeeping skills to the advantage of our devil slavemasters for centuries! Let us now, cultivate the knowledge of these essential sciences for the benefit of our own selves, our men and our children and pass them down for improvement and advancement by our scion.
I was going to rewrite the article, but I couldn’t find any pictures to accompany such an antiquated but beautiful piece of homemaking. So, I am republishing the article in its entirety here.
Unfortunately, I cannot enlarge it, but you can go to your settings and enlarge it.
There are some very practical and decorative suggestions for your dining room table I think you will enjoy and be wise to utilize.
As-Salaamu ‘Alaikum!
