There was a lot of information but not enough to satisfy me.

Their simplified answer to what is Juneteenth is a celebration of the end of slavery.

This is wrong.

#1 We are still slaves. We never received the promised forty acres and mule which would have freed us.

Without these necessities we were forced to return to the slavemaster to survive.

We were freed in paper but not in reality.

No, we didnt HAVE to go back to the slavemaster and some of us didn’t.

The majority of us however were not equipped with the knowledge of how to survive off the land after being completely dependent for three hundred years and then told you’re on your own.

With nothing.

We would have died. We had families and nothing to give them nor feed them.

From what I have read the newly emancipated slaves who were able to retain their freedom however ignorant had connections somewhere who were able to assist in their transition to self sufficiency.

Others without the forty acres and mule were forced to beg for a job. As we still do today.

The slavemaster rented us parcels of land which he owned and we were able to feed ourselves. SHARING THE CROP with the Land Lord.

The terms of these arrangements were such that generations of “freed” slaves were indebted to the slavemaster and thus effectually still in bondage WITHOUT THE LIBERTY TO GO FREE ONCE EQUIPPED with the knowledge (EDUCATION) due to clever legalities binding the once slave to the former slavemasters land and equipment. ALSO VIOLENCE IF THE SLAVE DECIDED TO MAKE USE OF HIS FREEDOM.

HE WOULD BE KILLED.

BROWN AMERICANS and other books mentioned in MESSAGE TO THE BLACKMAN illustrate the slavemasters tricks he still uses to keep his slaves /workers / employees is the term used nowadays. Which the majority of us still are. SLAVES. Still working for the slavemaster and he is doing everything he possibly can to keep you believing you are free.

#2 The actual date of our EMANCIPATION was 1 January 1863.

JUNETEENTH 1865 – two years and another half of a year LATE was when the last slaves got the notification. GALVESTON is probably the southernmost city in the country.

But they knew it was coming months before The Emancipation Proclamation went into effect.

The government had to send officials to force the slavemasters to acknowledge the act and remove the physical chains allowing their workers to leave if they wanted to.

They completed this act on 19 June 1865

Exactly One Hundred Sixty Years ago tomorrow.

We were probably supposed to get the forty acres and mule from our former slavemaster.

Something like a PENSION.

As it is mentioned in BROWN AMERICANS America would be a very different country if these things were given.
