Chapter 23
Get Knowledge to Benefit Self
1 I am for the acquiring of knowledge or the accumulating of knowledge – as we now call it; education. First, my people must be taught the knowledge of self. Then and only then will they be able to understand others and that which surrounds them. Anyone who does not have a knowledge of self is considered a victim of either amnesia or unconsciousness and is not very competent. The lack of knowledge of self is a prevailing condition among my people here in America. Gaining the knowledge of self makes us unite into a great unity. Knowledge of self makes you take on the great virtue of learning.
2 Many people have attempted to belittle or degrade my followers by referring to them as unlettered and
unschooled. They do this to imply that the believers in Islam are ignorant. If such a claim were so, then all the more credit should be given for our striving for self-elevation with so little. But truth represents itself
and stands by itself. No followers, nor any other people are more zealous about the acquiring of knowledge than my followers. Throughout the Holy Qur’an, the duty of a Muslim to acquire knowledge is spelled out.
3 My people should get an education which will benefit their own people and not an education adding to the “storehouse” of their teacher. We need education, but an education which removes us from the shackles of slavery and servitude. Get an education, but not an education which leaves us in an inferior position and without a future. Get an education, but not an education that leaves us looking to the slave-master for a job.
4 Education for my people should be where our children are off to themselves for the first 15 or 16 years in classes separated by sex. Then they could and should seek higher education without the danger of losing respect for self or seeking to lose their identity. No people strive to lose themselves among other people except the so-called American Negroes. This they do because of their lack of knowledge of self.
5 We should acquire an education where our people will become better students than their teachers. Get an education which will make our people produce jobs for self and will make our people willing and able to go and do for self. Is this not the goal and aim of the many foreign students who are studying in this country?
Will not their students return to their own nations and give their people the benefit of their learning? Did not Nkrumah return to Ghana to lead his people to independence with the benefit of learning he acquired here in America and elsewhere? Did not Dr. Hastings Banda return to give the benefit of his education to his people who are striving toward freedom and independence in Nyasaland? Did not Nnamdi Azikiwe of Nigeria give the benefit of his education to the upliftment and independence of his people. Does not America offer exchange scholarships to smaller, weaker and dependent foreign governments so their students will acquire knowledge to aid the people of those countries? Then why shouldn’t the goal in education be the same for you and me? Why is scorn and abuse directed toward my followers and myself when we say our people should get an education which will aid, benefit and uplift our people? Any other people would consider it a lasting insult, of the worst type, to ask them to refrain from helping their people to be independent by contributing the benefit of their knowledge.
6 Get an education, but one which will instill the idea and desire to get something of your own, a country of your own and jobs of your own.
7 I recall, in 1922 or 1923, when a debate was taking place in Congress concerning appropriation of funds for Howard University, a school set aside to train my people, in the nation’s capital. A senator said this, and it is in the records to be examined in effect: What would be the need of the government appropriating money to educate Negroes? He said that they would not teach our people the science of modern warfare (defense), birth control or chemistry. He knew these were the things free people must know in order to protect, preserve and advance themselves. We have not been able to protect, preserve and advance ourselves. This shows the slave-master has been very successful in dominating us with an education beneficial to him. There is a saying among us, “Mother may have, father may have, but God blesses the child who has it’s own.” It is time we had our own.
8 I want an education for my people that will let them exercise the right of freedom. We are 100 years up
from slavery. We are constantly told that we are free. Why can’t we take advantage of that freedom? I want an education for my people that will elevate them. Why should we always be lying at the gate begging for bread, shelter, clothing and jobs if we are free and educated? Do not get an education just to set it up as some useless, symbolic monument to the black man in the Western Hemisphere. We need an education that eliminates division among us. Acquire an education that creates unity and makes us desire to be with our own.
9 The acquiring of knowledge for our children and ourselves must not be limited to the three R’s ‘ – ‘reading, ‘riting and ‘rithmetic. It should instead include the history of the black nation, the knowledge of civilization of man and the universe and all the sciences. It will make us a greater people of tomorrow.
10 We must instill within our people the desire to learn and then use that learning for self. We must be
obsessed with getting the type of education we may use toward the elevation and benefit of our people – when we have such people among us, we must make it possible for them to acquire this wealth which will be beneficial and useful to us.
11 One of the attributes of Allah, The All-Wise God, Who is the Supreme Being, is knowledge. Knowledge is the result of learning and is a force or energy that makes it’s bearer accomplish or overcome obstacles,
barriers and resistance. In fact, God means possessor of power and force. The education my people need is that knowledge, the attribute of God, which creates power to accomplish and make progress in the good things or the righteous things. We have tried other means and ways and we have failed. Why not try Islam?
It is our only salvation. It is the religion of Allah, His prophets and our forefathers.
Note how everybody in the audience is devils. We could not perform for our own family and friends because all of the shows were segregated. Also we had to eat in the kitchen.

As-Salaamu ‘Alaikum Beloved and Beautiful Asiatic Black Ukhtis!!!
So stoked about this issue! 🙂 The WHAT’S UP? column is blowing up! I really enjoy giving my unusual opinion on issues. This time, Homegirl who’s bestie got married and igged her, just had a baby! So cheah… Guess? is back! They have a whole GUESS? website, but imho, the sk8r jeans are the best.
I really pondered the brand name and concluded that it is really ingenious. Did this imaginary convo…
Me – Guess?
You – Tell!
Cool, huh? Simple is so the thing right now!
The chapter in MESSAGE TO THE BLACKMAN – Get Knowledge To Benefit Self – is one of my absolute faves! When I was an undergrad back in the mid-nineties, it was a big point of contention for Black People to “give back.” Since the fifties, it was a thing to get a degree then get lost among whites in suburbia. Then came The Civil Rights and then The Black Power Movements wherein Black college grads began to be held accountable for using their knowledge to establish businesses and organizations within the Black Community instead of just for their own personal gain or corporate ambition.
One of my fave sentences is “Do not get an education just to set it up as some useless, symbolic monument to the black man in the Western Hemisphere.“
That is so profound to me.
Your college education is just used to promote the generosity of our slavemaster. As an example of what he is now doing for his slaves. They have college degrees now! They can tell the world.
But your college degree does absolutely nothing for the progress of our people! ZERO!
It is incumbent upon those of us who have any type of college education, in my humble opinion, to use what you have learned to uplift us as a people.
“We must instill within our people the desire to learn and then use that learning for self. We must be obsessed with getting the type of education we may use toward the elevation and benefit of our people – when we have such people among us, we must make it possible for them to acquire this wealth which will be beneficial and useful to us.”

GUESS? –

UGANDA OPENS FIRST LARGE-SCALE GOLD MINE
President Yoweri Museveni also outlined plans to utilise the revenue from gold exports to develop national assets including power stations and the country’s railway infrastructure.
Uganda is currently constructing a $3.1bn (Ush11.03trn) standard gauge railway to facilitate cheaper transport of exports and imports via Kenya.
The landlocked East African nation is also rich in minerals such as copper, cobalt and iron ore.
According to central bank data, gold exports brought in $3.4bn for the nation last year, accounting for around 37% of Uganda’s total export revenue.
What’s Up?
QUESTION: My husband suffered a heart attack recently and I am having trouble getting him to eat the healthier food options.
ANSWER: CHECK OUT THE SIMPLE, HEALTHY AND DELICIOUS RECIPES HERE and let me know how it goes! 🙂 ❤ ❤ ❤
AGAIN – HOW TO EAT TO LIVE NUTRICIOUS AND DELICIOUS RECIPES! 🙂 ❤ ❤ 🙂
QUESTION: My bf and her hubby recently celebrated the birth of their first baby. I feel neglected. 😦
ANSWER: I have answered the same type of issue when your bestie got married, Sister. If you are truly a best friend, you have to come to grips with your status in the friendship. If you are truly a best friend, that usually is followed by FOREVER, so Sis, realize one thing. YOU ARE THE DUFF. Maybe not necessarily fat and ugly but definitely bringing up the rear. Okay? Face that fact. OWN IT.
But honestly, Sister, if you can maintain your friendship after these two major life hurdles, then your comraderie should stay intact for life. MARRIAGE AND CHILDREN are the most important aspects in a person’s life. Pretty much the only things that are forever – guaranteed. Jobs and education, maybe legal disputes are secondary to these two.
So, you managed to maintain through the newlywed stage, now on to phase two. BABIES!!! 🙂 ❤ ❤ ❤
Sister, I have to admit, when it comes to children and advice from me, EVERYTHING COMES SECOND TO THE CHILDREN!!! AND I MEAN, EVERYTHING!!!!!
So, be there and “Oooohhh!!!” and “Aaaaaahhhh!!!!” like you supposed whenever she calls gushing!!! Swallow it up and Lay it on! Go overboard! That’s your BESTIE!!! And her little Angel! And GUESS WHAT,
Best Friend??? TWIN. YOU JUST GOT PROMOTED TO AUNTI!!!! What’s better than that???
I mean, really, Sister. WHO doesn’t love babies, and toddlers, and children, and pre-teens and adolescents and twenty-somethings, and thirty-somethings…..??? The love! The fun! The passion! The energy!!!
I would just go on ahead and get to know everybody who works in the Macy’s children’s department. (My local store acquired the now defunct TOYS ‘R US chain!) I love just walking through that department. Even though Mine are in their twenties and thirties and I know no children to buy for, sometimes I just buy and give toys that I particularly love to strangers. SMH
Last Christmas, they had sk8boards for $25!!!! O.M.G. I think I bought them all. LOL!!! 🙂 Okay, maybe seven out of ten….
Aunti, consider yourself BLESSED to be in such close proximity to a new baby!!! So lucky!! You should be thanking Allah for allowing you to be near such adorableness!!!! “Ga ga goo goo!!!” I AM SO STOKED!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂
But cheah, once you get acclimated to your new number three status, purchase a thermos and portable dish containers, ’cause you and your bestie are gonna be having tea at her place for a minute!!!
Remember, she is going to need you to help her when she gets weary – new babies and a husband can be alot for novices. Keep your phone near. She will need your ear and eye when baby accomplishes yet another amazing, incredible and totally AWESOME first. 🙂
Photo albums are making a comeback, Aunti. SPLURGE! Start a Scrapbook! Baby will love you for it later! ❤ ❤ ❤
Prepare meals for your best friend sometimes. She’s probably going to be tired and would really appreciate the bestfriendly gesture. 🙂 Visit often and always bring something for baby and/or some bubble bath, body oils, jewelry or other pamper me stuff for the new Mommy. 🙂
When baby is napping, discuss current events and other interesting adult topics (like fashion, art, new advances in science and technology) that she might have missed while engrossed in new baby stuff… Help with her hair, nails, etc… In general, just enjoy this wonderful time in life. Use it as an excuse to CELEBRATE!!! ❤ ❤ ❤ 🙂
And…
STAY UP!!!! 🙂 ❤ ❤
p.s. It doesn’t hurt to inquire into bestie’s hubby’s acquaintances again….. 😉 🙂 ❤ ❤ ❤
SPOTLESS: OTTOMANS

SULTAN OSMAN I (born c. 1258—died 1324 or 1326) was the ruler and founder of the Ottoman Turkish Empire. The English variation of OTTOMAN is derived from his True Arabic name – ʿUsmān or Uthman.
Accordingly, his reign can rightfully be remembered as an era of great wealth and comfort. Forever dovetailed in the symbolic naming of the piece of furniture most associated with relaxation and comfort – aptly named after him and his exquisite empire – THE OTTOMAN….
If you will notice, the Sultan is reclining on one of his namesake items of furniture in the painting…

Often doubling up in usage, for storage as well as relaxation…. 🙂 🙂

These are also known as “POUFS” so as to distinguish them from the more traditional “ottomans” that sit on four legs on the floor.

Often a chair will pair with a matching ottoman

F.O.I.
My uncle once told me, when I was asking everybody older than me what they remembered about The Black Power Movement, that he only went to BLACK PANTHER meetings to meet girlz…

SPOONZ:
HAUTE CUISINE
ETIQUETTE: TAI JI QUAN
When I was still with Louis Farrakhan and his followers, one Saturday during M.G.T. & G.C.C. we were invited to participate in a Tai Chi exercise.
Since then I have participated in many classes, studied on my own and just generally have come to love the tradition and all that it represents.
In my four and fifty years, I have seen fads come and go; trends rise in popularity only to fall once again.
But when something is truly for you, it is genuinely a part of you and remains throughout your life regardless of its general popularity. So, it is with sk8ing, Kwanzaa and now Tai Chi’s popularity is plummeting once again.
The art is a part of ANCIENT CHINESE MEDICINE and has been practiced since the days of THE YELLOW EMPEROR (2697 BC).
When I was first introduced to it about thirty years ago, it was primarily and fundamentally simple – a thirty-minute choreographed routine.
Since then it has devolved into nothing but warm-up exercises completely devoid of the POINT!
I have had the most difficulty finding a video of the original, approximately five thousand-year-old routine!
Also, I refuse to learn an art or science that is a cultural part of a certain society from a non-member of that society.
Typical of the devil, they have travelled the earth and after learning the ancient ways of indigenous people, killed them, stole their land, enslaved the survivors and exploited the natural resources.
And as if that wasn’t enough, they then charge the remnant of remaining aboriginals to teach their children their own ancient culture: language; foods; music; ourstory; etc.!
Particularly popular among Seniors, I have met Tai Ji practitioners in their eighties, who are just as agile as any sk8r. Most have been practicing the art for at least thirty-five or forty years or better. Easily accounting for their premium physical health.
What I love most about the practice is the concept of Tai and Ji.
Tai, from my studies, means flow.
Ji, the root word of INNER JI (energy), is basically the force that gives life to living beings.
Tai Ji is a series of movements that facilitate the smooth flow of INNER JI, throughout the human body.
The regular practice of TAI JI enables the physical body to ensure there are no blockages in the JI passageways ensuring optimum health and harmony between all body systems resulting in a peaceful countenance and thus, a relaxed state of being and optimum mental and physical health and longevity.
The most important aspect, which often goes overlooked, in the growing popularity of the movement, is the importance of the continuous flow of movement.
Al Hamdulillah, I was able to find this video.
I pray Allah, it helps you balance your life demands, through another pause in your schedule, in addition to the five daily prayers 🙂 , wherein you can totally relax and lose yourself in the movements.
Free your mind and let the OUTER JI from sunshine and fresh, crisp Autumn gales purify and enhance your INNER JI releasing any blockages and/or negativity in your body, ultimately resulting in a clear, sharp and sound mind and agile body.
AS-SALAAMU ‘ALAIKUM!!!! 🙂 ❤ ❤
