As-Salaamu ‘Alaikum Beloved Black Sisters!

I found this recipe and tried it and my son absolutely LOVED it. He asked if I could make it every day. 🙂 The original recipe called for Pineapples and only half the amount I used. But my son likes strawberries, so I substituted strawberries for the pineapple and increased the amount. Any kind of fruit will probably work. By the way, this is not a picture of this recipe, but it looks something like this. I used whole-wheat flour, so it comes out somewhat darker. But you get the idea.

Next time, I’m not going to use the cornstarch either. I think it is just supposed to thicken up the filling, but I don’t think it needs it. I’ll update next time. Also, it won’t have the crumbly things like on most coffee cakes. But, you won’t miss it. 🙂

STRAWBERRY COFFEE CAKE

INGREDIENTS

CAKE
1 cup homemade butter (freshly-made or softened)
1 cup honey
4 eggs
1 t vanilla extract
2 1/4 cups whole-wheat flour
1 t baking powder
1/2 t baking soda

FILLING
2 lbs. strawberries
1+ cup honey
3 T corn starch

INSTRUCTIONS
Filling:  Wash and remove stems from strawberries. Blend in a blender.  Transfer to medium sized bowl. Add honey and cornstarch. Heat until bubbly.

Cake: Preheat oven to 350°. Beat together butter, honey and eggs. Add vanilla. In a separate bowl, sift together dry ingredients, then slowly add to the creamed mixture of butter, honey, eggs and vanilla. Mix thoroughly.
Pour 3/4 of the mixture into a buttered 9″x13″ pan. Spread filling mixture on top of this, then pour the remaining cake batter on top.
Bake at 350° for 30-45 minutes or until batter is solid. Cool.

As-Salaamu ‘Alaikum Beautiful and Beloved Asiatic Black Queens!

The cold weather is coming and that means colds and flu. I cannot remember the last time my son got sick. It may have been around two years ago. However, yesterday he began exhibiting symptoms of a cold. I was raised on over-the-counter cold and flu medicines, but I wanted to try a more wholistic method of treating my son’s illnesses. So, I have been trying different methods using all-natural ingredients.

Yesterday evening, I gave him a glass of Lemon-Water (8 oz. of spring water and 1 teaspoon of fresh-squeezed lemon juice NO SWEETENER). This drink is very healing. Many people drink it every morning to give a boost to their overall health, but my son does not like it, so after some resistance, I insisted that he drink all of it.

He started showing signs of immediate improvement, but he was still stopped up and releasing phlegm. So, I gave him a tiny piece of a garlic clove and had him chew it. Garlic is strong, but the piece was so small. He still gave me a hard time. But, I would not stand for him to get sick. So, I made him eat it and about every 45 minutes after, I gave him a translucent slice of garlic and had him nibble on it until he went to bed.

In the morning, I did not wake him for Fajr (morning prayer). I let him get his rest, thanking Allah for His Mercy, Forgiveness and Understanding that his slave, Hakim, was sick and that that was the only reason he missed his prayer. And knowing that Allah Had the Power to Heal My Son.

He woke up on his own around 8:00 and showed no signs of sickness. It is important to start treating the symptoms as soon as you recognize them. You might see glassy eyes, or sniffling, maybe lethargy. I just used these two treatments and they worked amazingly.

If the sickness has progressed so that the garlic and lemon-water is not effective and your child still is suffering from congestion, Peppermint Tea works wonders. You can make tea from the leaves of peppermint, but if you can get some Peppermint Oil, you can put a couple drops in some water that has just been boiled and have your child cautiously lean over it. (It can be strong.) The vapors will open his sinuses. He can then drink the tea.

If your child develops a sore throat, Aloe Vera Tea is very soothing. Just extract the pulp from an Aloe Vera leaf and boil it in about 8 oz. of water. Sweeten it with honey and have your child drink it.

Here is a recipe for a very effective All-Natural Cough Suppressant, made with ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen.

1/4 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
1/4 teaspoon Ground Ginger
1 Tablespoon Honey
1 Tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar
2 Tablespoons Water

* If you are making this for your children, don’t use 1/4 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper. Just use a few shakes. It will still work.

Our Beloved Messenger (May the Peace and the Blessings of Allah Forever Be Upon Him) taught us in HOW TO EAT TO LIVE that “Simple Foods Are The Best.” So it is best to not prepare all kinds of fancy foods nor try all of the devil’s new foods he puts on the market to tempt your appetite and have you eating pork byproducts he surreptitiously adds to all his foods.

Milk, Bread and Navy Beans are the Best Foods for us to eat. Of course, we can supplement these foods with Vegetables and Fruits. But we should be careful not to eat every kind of vegetable. We should not eat those vegetables that we were reared on as slaves, such as collard greens, turnip sprouts, beet top salads, kale, etc. (according to the above book). These vegetables are horse and cattle foods and are not fit for human consumption. However, according to the above book, Cauliflower and Brussels Sprouts are two of the vegetables that are okay to eat.

Fresh vegetables are very easy and very healthy for us to make. To prepare cauliflower, simply tear off all of the green leaves and then cut the stem. You can break off the florets with your hand and then wash them. To prepare the Brussels sprouts just wash them and remove any yellowed leaves. You can also trim the stems.

Chop some onions and add a few whole cloves of garlic. Place them in some Corningware or any baking dish with a lid. Do not use aluminum foil. Season with salt, any seasonings you like and butter and bake at 350° F for about 30 minutes or until you smell them. I usually turn the oven off when I smell them and let them remain in the oven to continue cooking. They get really soft and good this way. I feel like I could eat some of these vegetables right now. They are very appealing to the appetite.

GINGER CHAI TEA

Sisters, we deserve the best Allah has to offer. Chai is a luxury we should experience every day, In sha Allah (If it pleases Allah). In Arabic it is pronounced “Shy” and it is Heavenly. I make mine with grated ginger, heavy whipping cream and Cardamom.

Just measure out how much water you are going to need for your Chai and grate some ginger into it. You can also use a tea strainer. Boil it. The strength of the ginger’s “bite” will depend on how long you boil it and how much ginger you use. You can test out different lengths and amounts until you find a combination that works best for you.

Strain the ginger out of the water, then pour the “ginger tea” over a Black Tea bag. I use Ahmad Tea because Ahmad is a name of Allah (God) and because I got three boxes for free at the Masjid. 🙂 Anyway, let it steep for about three to five minutes depending on how strong you want it.

Then add some honey and a little heavy whipping cream.

Top it off with a little Cardamom and Enjoy!

**You can also refrigerate and drink it cold – or even put it in the freezer till it’s icy – a spicy refresher for warm Summer days!

There is a much more sensible way of doing this. (But Martha Stewart, being a devil, is only working with six ounces of brain, as opposed to my 7 1/2, so we can’t fault her for the way she is made. She is doing the best that she can.)

It is not necessary to use two identical bowls, nor is it necessary to peel a whole head of garlic. (I mean really, who needs that much garlic???) You can use however many cloves you need. Just put them in a small jar, cap it with the lid and shake. The video fabricates the length of time it takes. However, even if you just shake them up for a little while, it loosens the skin enough so that it comes right off.

“Dry beans (navy beans) and whole bread are good for us. We do not have to go around looking for all kinds of foods. Just one common kind will do. Give the body some time to rest.”

‘THE GREAT POISON dishes that are set before you and that you are dining off of daily, and that some of you eat three and four times a day are:

Number 1: The filthy hog meat

Number 2: Beans that cattle should eat. And, that is what they are made for and not for human consumption: Lima beans, butter beans, field peas, black-eyed peas, and even soy beans are not good for anything but for shortening your life.”

DO NOT EAT field peas, black-eyed peas, brown peas, yellow peas nor red peas. Do not eat the great big lima beans nor the little lima beans. The only kidney-like bean should you eat, as Allah (God) Taught me, is the navy bean. There are the white ones and the red ones.”

Crustless Bean Pie

As-Salaamu ‘Alaikum Beautiful and Beloved Black Queens!!!

The Nation of Islam is almost as well-known for its bean cuisine as it is known for its Black Supremacy Teachings. This is because the small white navy bean, according to the Teachings of Allah to Our Beloved Messenger (PBUH), is the BEST FOOD we can eat.

SUPREME BEAN PIE

INGREDIENTS

2 c Navy Beans

1 Stick Butter (1/2 cup) ONE MORE STICK OF BUTTER

2 T Whole-Wheat Flour

4 Eggs

1 t Nutmeg

2 c Honey

1 12 oz. can Evaporated Milk

1 t Cinnamon

2 T Vanilla Extract

(Pie crust recipe is below)

DIRECTIONS

Cook beans until soft. (I like to add a little butter to the beans when I cook them.)

Preheat oven to 350°F.

In large bowl, mix honey and warm beans.

Blend thoroughly and return to large bowl.

Blend butter, eggs, flour, nutmeg, milk and cinnamon.

Pour into bean/honey mixture.

Add Vanilla.

Mix well.

Pour into pie shells.

Bake about 45-50 minutes until golden brown.

Then spread soft stick of butter on top and return to the oven until browned.
(I have never tried this but I have spread butter on baked goods and can attest to the fact it will turn brown and buttery delicious. TRY IT! And let me know the results! 🙂 Not sure how long it takes to brown…. Five?

PIE CRUST

INGREDIENTS

2 c whole-wheat flour

3/4 c butter

5 T cold water

Mix flour and butter using a pastry blender, two knives or a fork until all flour is just blended to form pea-sized chunks.

Sprinkle in water, one tablespoon at a time.

Toss lightly with fork and form dough into a ball.

Divide dough into two parts.

Press between hands to form (2) 5-6- inch patties.

On a lightly floured surface, use a rolling pin to roll one patty into a circle the size of an upside down pie pan.

Gingerly roll the crust around the rolling pin and unroll it into the pie pan.

Repeat with the other patty.

My son doesn’t really care for the crust, so he came up with the brilliant idea of making it with no crust. I had never heard of a pie with no crust. But I looked it up on the Internet and I saw recipes for Pumpkin pie with no crust. And knowing that before Our Nation started making Bean Pie, they used to eat Pumpkin pies, I was sure it would work. So, if you are not that particular toward crust, this pie is also very, very good without it. Just butter your pie pan real good before pouring the mix into it and bake it just like you would with a crust. The pie in the picture is crustless.

I met a Brother selling bean pie on Crenshaw one day. He had one left. I bought it and why was it the best bean pie I had ever had in my life. I knew the secret was his crust. I had never had a bean pie with a crust like that and it was so good. Years later I realized it had a graham cracker crust. I have never made a bean pie with a graham cracker crust but that is also an option they are delicious!

NO NUTS, whatsoever should be eaten. Allah taught me that they take away five years of your life everytime you eat them. And stop eating that concrete-like peanut butter.”

“Then, in addition to eating frequently, they eat nuts of various kinds and candies full of nuts, which the stomach is unable to digest without harming its delicate digestive tract. Trying to digest these various poisonous foods forces the stomach to empty all of its digestive juices, thus causing it to wear out early from hard work.

The loss of our stomachs can cause the loss of our lives. There is a limit to the amount of digestive juice that starts flowing when our food enters our mouths and continues until it is in the large colon of our body.

CINNAMON-HONEY WHOLE-WHEAT BROWNIES

Out of all of my dessert recipes, this is the one I prepare the most often. It’s delicious, easy to make and I always have all of the ingredients. Here is the recipe for some deliciously moist and chewy, chocolatey brownies.

INGREDIENTS

3/4 c whole-wheat flour

3/4 c butter softened

1 1/2 t vanilla

1/2 c cocoa

1 c honey

3 eggs

1/2 t baking powder

1/4 t cinnamon

**DO NOT PUT NUTS IN THEM!!!**

DIRECTIONS

Pre-heat oven to 350°.

Cream all the above, except the flour, together. Stir in flour. Spread in a buttered 8-inch pan.

Bake for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out nearly clean.

*Note: In some ovens these brownies will be done in 20-25 minutes, so you may want to check them sooner.

“Do not be a meat consumer. Be a vegetarian. This is the best menu for our health.”

“We eat meat, but yet meat is not good for us. It becomes a habitual tool. This type of food poisons the blood and goes into the flesh and cannot help but transform and destroy the surface of the flesh.”

“We should not eat meat at all. Meat is not good for our health nor for our body.

“ACTUALLY by nature, we are not made to live off meat. ALLAH (God) Who Came in the Person of Master Fard Muhammad, to Whom Praises are due forever, Taught me, that no meat is good for us, except the little young pigeon (squab) that has never flown from its nest.”

“BEEF – coarse meat, such as beef – we should not wear out our stomach trying to digest this coarse meat. We should not eat any meat – not even lamb.”

“Let us try not to eat so much meat – especially animal flesh. No meat is good for good health and longevity. We must stop eating meat gradually, because actually, meat is not by nature a food for human consumption.”

“BEFORE the making of the white man, the Black man did not eat animal flesh.”

“…Meat was never intended for man to eat from the very creation of man. We have been eating meat. Why? Because the ruler of this nation of earth for the past six thousand years (6,000 years) is an enemy of the Original Man who has inhabited the earth from time unknown to man. A people that have been populating the earth here for billions and trillions of years would not eat the wrong food if they had not been made to suffer for guidance under a made enemy of theirs. And, the enemy does not follow what we, the Original Man had and was practicing. “It is true, according to the Teachings of Almighty God to me, that he caused us to eat the wrong foods. He is doing it himself and any man (the Original Black Man) who comes into his civilization, he tries to force him to eat the wrong foods.”

“TO EAT MEAT is against our life and shortens the span of our life. We eat meat because it is a habit from childhood.”

FISH is a better food, if you eat the better fish. The flesh of the fish comes out of another world. This makes it better for us in this world. Any animal or beast that is out here eating the same food that we eat, we should not eat him, because his flesh is too hard for our flesh to digest.”

“HOW TO EAT TO LIVE. Eat that food that Allah (God) Has Prescribed for us. Even take little simple things such as beans. Allah (God) says that the little navy bean will make you live, just eat them. Yet we cannot live one-half (½) that length of time eating everything that the Christian table has set for us.

“VERY few Christians, even doctors, live eighty to ninety (80-90) years – not to think of living over one hundred (100) years. And they think they have lived for a long time if they reach a life span of eighty or ninety years. He has not been here long enough to know what life is.

“NOAH and Methuselah lived almost into a thousand years, but we cannot live one-tenth (1/10) that time (100 years), because we eat the wrong food.”

SIMPLE navy beans is one of the best foods that we can eat. You do not have to strain the beans to eat them. Straining the beans is a real habit that we took up years ago. But, they are better if you eat them in their hull (skin).

“DO NOT put a lot of spices, or what you call season, in such good food. Do not do this. You will ruin your food. The value of the bean is taken away by your putting so much seasoning in them. Just put the beans on and cook them until they are done. Let the beans stay in its jacket. Of course I see them crush the beans, and since the cooks and the eaters like it like that, I go along with them. But I like it better when you just cook them right in the jacket.

“I FEEL like I could eat a bowl full of beans right now while I am talking about it. You can eat that bean seven (7) days a week. It is very appealing to the appetite.

“WE SHOULD have a great field of hundreds and thousands of acres of beans to feed our people. It is a very cheap and a very healthy food for us. We should buy canning factories for ourselves and can beans.”

“WE the Black People need to plant wheat and to raise all of the wheat flour that we can raise. We need to have great farms of pigeon-birds and eat only the ones who are too young to leave their nest. We call them squab. Allah (God) Said to me that this young bird is the only one that is fit for us to eat and do not eat Him after he flies from the nest. Chicken is not good for us to eat although we eat it. As you know the chicken is as filthy as the swine or the dog. He is a very filthy fowl… he will turn right around and eat his own droppings.”

“DO NOT EAT such foods as collard greens. Do not eat black eyed peas, or brown black and many other peas. They are not good for your stomach. Feed them to the cattle. Do not eat baby or adult lima beans. “

How to eat to live.”

“Sugar diabetes can be controlled and cured if you only eat right. Stay off of sugar and starchy foods and leave those old, white potatoes alone. Do not eat spaghetti and macaroni at every meal. If you are overweight, do not eat it at any meal, and if you want to live a long time, do not eat it at any meal. Food such as spaghetti and macaroni is processed, not cooked thoroughly, and is hard to digest.”

“CORN BREAD, half-done flour bread, and sweet potatoes, all shortens your life. The sweet potato is not good for any human to take as a food. White potatoes do very well but they produce too much starch which would add fat, and too much fat shortens the life.”

“Fresh fruit and fresh edible vegetables and good pure wheat bread, pure milk and butter are the best food for man.”

HONEY WHOLE-WHEAT MILK CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES

INGREDIENTS
1 1/2 c Honey
1 c fresh homemade butter
1 t vanilla extract
1 egg
2 c whole-wheat flour
1 t baking soda
1 bag milk chocolate chips
1/4 t Cinnamon
1/4 t Nutmeg

DIRECTIONS 

  1. Heat oven to 375° F.
  2. In a large bowl stir honey, butter, vanilla and egg until well blended.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg. Add to honey/butter mix
  4. Stir in chocolate chips.
  5. On ungreased cookie sheet, drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls about two inches apart.
  6. Bake about ten minutes or until light brown (centers will be soft). Cool slightly, remove from cookie sheets.
