As-Salaamu ‘Alaikum Dear Beautiful Asiatic Queens,
This morning as I was doing my vacuuming, I got on my knees to pick up a piece of lint or something that the vacuum wouldn’t catch and as I resumed my vacuuming, I just stayed on my knees.
I was amazed at the ease in which the vacuum glided across the carpet. It was much easier than when I was standing. Probably the physics of being closer to the floor than if I was standing up – More Force or the Angle at Which I Was Pushing the Vacuum or both.
Anyway, in addition to being easier, I was also able to pick up the pieces of lint the vacuum wouldn’t catch easier being that I was already so close to the floor. I was also more likely to pick up the smaller pieces because it was so convenient.
Try it!

I am going to share with you a housekeeping secret that is probably as old as the products pictured above. When I lived with my Grandmother, she used to have me put baking soda down the shower drain, followed by vinegar and finished off with boiling hot water.
I used to hate this chore, but now that I have my own place, I realize what a valuable lesson she was unwittingly instilling in me. A couple of years after I moved in (maybe less) I had to have a plumber come in and clear my drains in the kitchen sink.
Then I remembered this tip my Dear Beloved Grandmother had me perform. Now, I have been doing it every few months since then and have never had another problem and it’s been three years.
This will work in any kind of drain. Probably even your toilet.

A good pair (or two) of gloves is essential when it comes to keeping house. I use them for everything: dishes, laundry, mopping, washing walls, &c. Unfortunately, even a good pair of gloves eventually wears out and if you are like me, you usually wear out one hand faster than the other. Consequently, you end up with a drawer full of gloves for the weaker hand.
Well Sisters, I have the solution to the problem of a drawer full of one hand gloves. Turn it inside out! You can wear it on the other hand and keep from have to buy a whole new set of gloves.

We have so many things to do throughout our day that it may be a challenge determining in which order to complete our many tasks. I have found that doing a little bit of each thing at a time prevents you from getting “burnt out” and also allows you to complete all of your tasks at once.
For instance, if you are doing laundry, you can sort the clothes and let the first load soak. While it’s soaking, you can get started on baking some bread. While the bread is rising, you can go over the days lesson with your child(ren). Once they are busy expanding their wisdom, you can do some housework. When you finish one area of house cleaning you can prepare your receipts for your bookkeeping, then go back to the laundry. Wash the load and prepare it for drying, check on your child’s progress, then do some more housework and knead your dough, &c….
You can substitute pretty much any of your tasks in the slots, just don’t worry about completing everything in one particular area all at once. Break it up. Once you complete one part take a break without really taking a break because you are still doing your work. You just won’t get stuck on one thing while other things need to be done. And before you know it, you will be finished with everything and can sit down with a satisfying sense of accomplishment and enjoy a well-deserved cup of Chai :).

In keeping our house, we must have the means to do so. As the keeper of the house, we are given a certain amount of money as a house allowance from our husband, inasmuch as we are the ones responsible for maintaining the weekly, monthly and yearly necessities of the house. Therefore we must use wisdom in spending.
(*Note: If we are single, we also use a budget and are wise in spending.)
We must keep accurate records of what is needed for every room in the house, also, what every person in the family’s personal needs are, so that we may keep the house functioning in an orderly manner.
A good housekeeper keeps the best records. She is always prepared to give any information concerning the money managements that are her duty.

You should buy a 3-ring binder and write down what you spend every month. Remember to save receipts, so that you can look back and record how much you spent on each product. If there is any waste you will know how to cut back on certain things or if you can buy in bulk and save.
Always keep monthly statements in your notebooks. There is a big push to go paperless and receive monthly statements online. I would recommend that you continue to receive paper statements so that you will have a hard copy for your notebook. However, it is possible to maintain records on your computer.
You can divide your notebook by statements; one section for bank statements, car notes, warranties, utility bills, etc.
Or you can arrange your notebook by month. At the end of each month you should tape your receipts to a piece of paper and insert them in your binder for easy reference. Then three-hole punch the statements for that month and insert them. Write down how much you spent on groceries, household items, gas, rent and bills and balance it with how much income you received. This way you know exactly how much money you spent on EVERYTHING, and can recognize any areas where you are being prodigal or niggardly.
Excel is a good program to use for budgeting and accounting.

One of the most ancient and most beautiful fragrances in the world is FRANKINCENSE.
I didn’t find out about Frankincense until I started going to Leimert Park.
I entered one of the businesses and was delighted by the enchanting fragrance wafting through the air. The owner told me it was FRANKINCENSE, showed me how to use it, and told me that I could purchase it at a store around the corner. Once there, the merchant treated me coldly and acted as if she didn’t want to share her secret with me. I bought it anyway. Ha!
Frankincense is, by far, the BEST incense there is. Sometimes, I still use sticks, other times I use oils, depending on my mood. But when I really want to indulge, I always use FRANKINCENSE. And Sisters, being the Black Queens we are, we most definitely deserve the absolute BEST, and should provide nothing less than the BEST for our families.
When your husband comes home, he should either smell food or some type of incense. And when you welcome him home, you make sure you tantalize his nostrils as well.
If you’re in South Central, you can get it from Taj Mahal on Crenshaw and 57th, two doors down from the Post Office. You can get a huge bag for $7.oo. They also sell a smaller bag, but I don’t know how much that one costs. Sika also sells it in Leimert. For my National and International Sisters (and any devils who may be reading this), you can find it and the charcoal on which to burn them online.
To use it, just find something decorative that will not burn; like the pot in the picture. You can also use a glass or ceramic bowl or small plate; just try and make it beautiful, like everything in your house should be. Pack some sand (or dirt ) in it. Light a charcoal (I use tweezers to hold it to keep from burning my fingers) and wait for it to turn orange. Place it on the sand. Carefully (again tweezers) put a FRANKINCENSE “tear” on the burning charcoal.
And Enjoy The Very BEST!
You Deserve It!
**NOTE – The charcoal will be much bigger than the frankincense tear. Consequently, I always break them into smaller pieces. They are very inexpensive (a dime apiece). But frugality pays. 🙂 Waste not, want not.

As-Salaamu ‘Alaikum Beloved and Beautiful Sisters,
I’ve been posting tips on how to clean house, but because I just started seeing roaches, coming from my next door neighbor’s house, I wanted to share an excellent tip on how to get rid of roaches for good.
You can get it from any hardware store.
Just apply liberally on your floors, in the corners of your cabinets, and any cracks and crevices where roaches reside.
According to Wikipedia.com, “The product is generally considered to be safe to use in household kitchens to control cockroaches and ants. It acts as a stomach poison affecting the insects’ metabolism, and the dry powder is abrasive to the insects’ exoskeletons.”
I learned about Boric Acid from an apartment owner who uses it when tenants, who had roaches, move out of his apartments. It works very well, even with heavy infestations. Just leave it on the floor and in the corners of your cabinets, under your sink, behind your drawers, &c. for a few days. Think like a roach when you are deciding where to put it down. You might even need to put it in the corners of your refrigerator. Then when you notice you don’t see them anymore, just sweep it up, and no more roaches.

As-Salaamu ‘Alaikum Beautiful and Beloved Black Sisters,
Sisters, I just wanted to share a recipe for homemade glass cleaner which can actually double as an all-purpose cleaner as well. I use it to clean windows, mirrors, and glass tables. And because it contains alcohol, it has some disinfecting properties, so I also use it to clean my sink, toilet and the tub.
It consists of just three simple ingredients, which you probably already have in your home.
Just combine 1/3 alcohol, 1/3 vinegar and 1/3 distilled water in a spray bottle and that’s it!

Keeping our house immaculately clean is an all-day task. Even if you are not actively cleaning, you should always be on the look-out for “clean-ups.” There may be a piece of lint on the carpet. There may be a piece of mail you neglected to file or throw away. One of your loving family members may have left a dish on the counter or neglected to put his or her shoes in the shoe rack by the front door. If you are always on the look-out, you will notice and thus pick up and throw away or put away any misplaced items instead of overlooking them.
You may have noticed some dust has accumulated between dustings. It is very easy to just take a little time to go and get your feather duster and dust that area. Your eyes should always be scanning your house for “clean-ups,” especially if you have a family. You have to clean up after them also.
It is good to train your children to clean-up after themselves. Do not let them take off a jacket without immediately hanging it up or take off their shoes without putting them in the shoe rack by the front door. Let me say here that we should always remove our shoes when entering the home. Shoes are made for walking outside. We don’t want to track dirt and debris from outside into our immaculate homes. This makes for more cleaning which can be avoided simply by removing our shoes.
You should be able to walk around in your stocking feet without the bottoms getting dirty. Floors are important in the general appearance of your home as they account for 25 per cent of a room. Keep them clean. Have your carpets cleaned every three months and sweep and mop daily.
Make your children wash their dishes and put them away immediately after use. Your husband, as the breadwinner and provider for the family can do what he wants. You should not nag him about anything he does around HIS house. He married you to keep his house. Do not nag him. He has a lot on his mind. You are there to EASE his mind not nag him about anything he does. Be grateful he provides for you and show him by putting his dishes away for him and hanging up his coat. And do not even bring it up. He sees what you do and will feel good about buying you diamond earrings and roses, when it pleases him.
Your children are a different story. You must instill the necessity of cleanliness in them. You should not have to tell them to clean up their room. Or set up a time for them to clean up. If you teach them to put EVERYTHING away, immediately after they have used it, there will be no need to make them put everything away all at one time because it will not have accumulated to that point. Of course, you will clean up after them, but you should also make them know the importance and get them into the habit of cleaning up after themselves all the time.
You are the only person ultimately responsible for keeping your house clean. Your family may help you, but the responsibility is all yours. Do not be too proud to get on your hands and knees. That is the difference between clean and immaculate. No one will see anything but the results of your hard work. And, your family will love you more when they see you going to such lengths to keep them in the BEST.
Sisters, Allah (God) has Blessed us with shelter. Having been homeless, I can truly say, from experience, how wonderful it is to have a roof over your head every night. Let Us Show And Prove To Our Saviour, Master Fard Muhammad, To Whom Praise Is Due Forever, That We Are Truly Grateful For His Blessing Us With Shelter And KEEP OUR HOMES IMMACULATELY CLEAN.
